Over the decades, the production of soap around Marseille and the Provence region has evolved and many soap producers in the region have developed soap with local ingredients and perfumes to create Fragranced Savon de Marseille or Savon De Provence.
These soap bars are made in and around Marseille and the Provence region and should be stamped with the words ‘Savon de Marseille’, ‘Fabrique En Provence’ or ‘Savon De Provence’.
These scented Marseille Soaps are not considered Traditional Savon de Marseille but rather modern variations. Though not strictly traditional and adhering to the original production techniques employed with authentic Traditional Marseille Soaps, these fragranced soap varieties stem from the old Marseille savonneries and traditions and have become hugely popular in recent years.
Often referred to as French Market soaps or Marseille Market Soaps as they are found in abundance on the market stalls in Marseille, Provence and the South of France, these scented Marseille Soaps have also become prevalent in markets all around France.
These scented Marseille Soaps come in a wide variety of colours and fragrances, formulated with different combinations of Shea Butter, Argan Oil, Olive Oil, Sweet Almond, Coconut Oil and responsibly sourced Palm Oil.
Unlike Traditional Marseille Soap, scented Marseille Soaps contain added colours, plant and flower essences as well as added perfume. By virtue of the fact they are triple milled, these soaps are long lasting and nourishing.
